March Disneybound Challenge

Hi Friends!

I hope everyone is staying warm on this snowy Monday! I was traveling two weeks ago and am now in the process of moving – more on that at a later date – but I wanted to take a minute to share a style challenge for March!

@thedisneybound posted the prompts for this year’s March Disneybound Challenge today and I wanted to share them in case anyone is interested in joining. It will be my third year participating in the challenge and it is definitely a challenge! Here are this year’s prompts:

DBC2019

I typically put the prompts into an excel file to start planning how I will be following the prompts and what outfits I am going to put together. The prompts this year feel even more challenging than years prior so I’m excited to see what everyone comes up with!

In the next few weeks I may post about the previous years to get into the March spirit 🙂 If you decide to participate, let me know in the comments!!

Thanks for following along!

Disneybound Sidekicks!

The second theme week that @thedisneybound announced was “Disney Sidekicks”. I spent a TON of time scratching my head thinking “who the heck should I Disneybound – this category is SO broad!” Ultimately, I searched my past Disneybounds to see who I’ve done before and to draw inspiration. This is what I found:

I have done a lot of what one might consider “sidekicks” in the past and while looking at them, I thought, “what if I did a buddy ‘bound for some of my throwbacks this week?” Since some of my past Sidekick Disneybounds were one of a few sidekicks from a particular movie, I thought that would be a fun challenge for me. Out of all the sidekicks I’ve previously ‘bounded, I chose: Scuttle (The Little Mermaid), Gus (Cinderella), Hei Hei (Moana) and Olaf and Sven (Frozen).

The Little Mermaid Sidekicks

As a buddy ‘bound to Scuttle, I decided to put together an outfit for Flounder. Since Flounder is yellow with blue stripes, I wore my yellow flowy shirt with my blue cardigan that has some darker blue stripes. It was basic, but effective

Cinderella Sidekicks

Gus Gus could only be partnered with Jaq – this duo is all the goals! Since my Gus Disneybound was such a hit, I wanted Jaq to live up to it’s counterpart. I paired a red sweater dress with a red fleece and red hat (in different shades) in order to represent him in my outfit.

Moana Sidekicks

Hei Hei is hilarious and the best partner for him is Pua. I was uncertain about my Pua Disneybound and on the fence about wearing my grey sweater, my white sweater, or my cream-colored sweater. I eventually decided on my grey sweater because the cream looked too off-color and I was planning on wearing my white sweater for a different ‘bound this week (which I didn’t do…more about that later). I added dark grey leggings and my black scarf to represent Pua’s spots and then my pink teether necklace (I have a teething child, what can I say?) to represent the parts that are pink. Then, wanting to do something with my hair, I put my hair up in high ponytails and made them into little buns to look like ears.

Frozen Sidekicks

My daughter and I had Disneybounded as Sven and Olaf for #FallintoDisneyStyle and so we switched it up for this week – I was Olaf and she was Sven. I put her in a brown onesie that I had bought her in the fall, a white fuzzy vest that she had gotten, and her red headband. I then wore my white sweater and dark leggings with my black teething necklace to represent Olaf’s buttons, and her orange headband as a hairbow (yes, I borrow from my 6-month old).

As a bonus, I absolutely had to reprise my Sven Disneybound (I don’t care how many times I do it, he is always cute) and had to have my daughter reprise her Olaf Disneybound (this was super cute the first time but I wanted to take more pictures this time). My own Olaf just couldn’t top the cuteness of my daughter’s, and so we had to do a re-do! My Sven Disneybound is my brown sweater dress, dark and light brown scarf, brown leggings, red belt, tan boots, and my reindeer earrings. My daughter’s Olaf Disneybound is a long sleeved white onesie and her orange headband which I paired with grey leggings and orange socks. The pictures came out so adorable!!

5 Things No One Told Me About Fashion Before and After Having A Baby

Ribbet collage (2)

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how my wardrobe has changed since becoming pregnant so I thought it was time to write a post about clothes, style, fashion, and having a baby. I will discuss the changes, the trends, and why certain styles are terrible when having a baby. These are the 5 Things No One Told Me:

5. Maternity clothes are expensive.

Maternity style does not come cheap. Clothes geared towards maternity are extremely expensive, especially when you consider the amount of time spent wearing said clothes. My strongest suggestion here is to thrift as much as possible and find clothes that can be worn postpartum as well. Most thrift stores have a maternity section and if you can’t find it, don’t be afraid to ask someone. I was searching our thrift store and was about to give up when my husband found the rack all the way in the back of the ladies section. I then tried on everything in my size and bought all the items that fit me well and were my style. Think of it this way – most people wear maternity clothes for about 3-6 months depending on if they are seasonal, times the amount of children they have. That’s way less than I wear most of my clothes which means the clothes are usually still in really good condition and are the same four brands that pretty much corner the market on Maternity-wear.

4. Nursing clothes are both expensive and hard to find.

I honestly have only found one company so far that specializes in nursing clothes that I love and their clothes are expensive. I registered for some nursing tank tops on a big website (I gave birth over the summer) and they served their purpose but were just not the quality I was looking for. It took me a little while to find a company I love and I bought a bunch of clothes from them – dresses, a romper, even a bathing suit – but it cost me a bunch. I tried to wait for sales but I was nursing constantly in the beginning. Then, the more I looked into nursing-wear, the more I found nursing/maternity wear. I was angry. Not because such a thing existed, but because I didn’t know about it until after I gave birth. This dual-purposed clothing would have been awesome to purchase about four or five months before I gave birth! So I have two recommendations here: if you are still early on in your pregnancy, purchase maternity clothes that can also be nursing clothes, and search for good deals on nursing tops even while pregnant so that you’re ready when the time comes. Also, if you have any nursing clothes brands that you love, please let me know about them in the comments!

3. You will live in nursing bras.

This one is obvious if you are nursing, but I also lived in them while pregnant because when my breasts were sore they were the most comfortable thing to wear. I probably bought these super early on in my pregnancy for the comfort factor but I still wear them every day and haven’t gone back to a regular bra yet. My recommendation is to buy at least three so you can rotate them around. I bought a pretty inexpensive three pack of black, tan, and white and they have been lifesavers.

2. Most maternity shirts you buy, you will never wear again.

Okay, so here I’m talking specifically about the nursing shirts that have sayings on them like “Kiss Me, I’m Pregnant” or ” Ready to Pop” – and yes, I had all of these (see photo above for examples). They were adorable, witty, and great photo ops but after I gave birth I had absolutely no need for them. I’m thinking about giving them to a friend of mine who is pregnant now because they are all so super cute and I want someone to get some use out of them. The shirt I have that says “Due in June” though? I have to find someone who is actually due in June to give that one to (to be fair, I bought that on clearance so I don’t feel as bad about that one). Anyway, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on clothes you’ll hardly ever wear again, then skip the cute sayings. I love them but don’t have any use for them now. The clothes I did (and still do) get a lot of use out of are basic solid color shirts. I have 3-4 long sleeved solid shirts and 3-4 short sleeved and they are great for any wardrobe.

1. Maternity pants, on the other hand, you’ll want to wear for the rest of your life.

Okay, I might be exaggerating on this one but they are pretty darn comfy. I am still in my maternity jeans (because who has time to get back into my old jeans with a baby?) and don’t even get me started on maternity yoga pants – talk about the most comfortable pants in the world! I definitely think about two pairs of maternity jeans, maybe two pairs of maternity shorts, and all the yoga pants you care to buy is a good recommendation.

thanksgiving

So there you have it – my top 5 things no one told me about fashion before and after having a baby. I hope someone finds this useful, I sure wish I had read it about a year ago but I guess you live and learn! Questions about brands I like or clothes I bought or wish I’d bought? Let me know in the comments!

Dressember – Days 13-16

Dressember4

For the month of December I committed to wearing a dress each day for Dressember, a fundraiser to support the elimiation of human trafficking world-wide (you can read my post about Dressember here if you’d like to learn more: Dressember).

I joined a group of Disneybounders and we followed prompts to dress for the month. Here are the prompts:

43333410_10156774246187292_6399690103572135936_n

Today I’m looking back at days 13-16 to talk about my outfit choices.

Day 13 – Freebie

I was lucky that freebie day fell on the day of my  work Holiday Lunch as we were planning to wear our “ugly sweaters” that day. I ended up getting this adorable “ugly sweater” dress to wear (even though unforeseen circumstances prevented me from wearing it all day).

Day 14 – Winnie the Pooh Characters

This was a real exciting day for me because I had wanted to do a Kanga and Roo Disneybound since before my daughter was born! I wore my tan dress and put my daughter in her blue outfit and held her in my soft carrier. It was probably one of my favorite ‘bounds of the month!

Day 15 – The Emperor’s New Groove

I decided to Disneybound as Kronk for day 15 because I had the best purple dress and only had to pair my blue cardigan and yellow scarf to complete the look. It was both simple and effective and a lot of fun 🙂

Day 16 – Tarzan characters

I was seriously torn when trying to decide on my choice of Tarzan character. I initially thought I’d choose Jane and wear my yellow dress, but when the day arrived I decided I would feel much more comfortable in my black dress and decided to go with Terk. I then added grey leggings for her grey fur and my black boots to finish it off.

Stuck in a Disneybound Rut

I was beyond excited when @thedisneybound announced their first theme week as Peter Pan because Peter Pan is my favorite Disney movie! Since it’s my favorite, however, I’ve done almost all the characters at one point or another and have ‘bounded as Peter Pan more times than I can count. In addition to this, my Peter Pan Disneybounds are not so unique as to decipher one day from another since they all center around the same few pieces of clothing. I bought a shirt about three years ago from a company that specializes in Disneybounding apparel that was very specifically Peter Pan themed. So, to get my money’s worth, I use it constantly in my Peter Pan bounds. This started to make me feel stagnant and limited in my options. At the beginning of this week I decided that I needed to do something different and not just the “same old ‘bounds”. When I woke up yesterday morning, I made the decision to wear one of my sweaters because I wanted to be cozy and I hadn’t worn many of my sweaters yet since I spent December in dresses. I stepped into my closet and stared at my sweaters, thinking “what have I not worn lately and what will still fit me?”. A forest green sweater that I bought last year caught my eye and, even though I told myself that I could just post throwbacks for “Throwback Thursday” and didn’t need a Disneybound, I found myself piecing together an outfit in my head:

“I need to wear that sweater, with a red tank top under it (rummages through shirt drawer for red tank top) and my tan leggings because the brown ones would just feel too dark and the green ones would totally clash. Then I can also wear my new favorite boots that I got for Christmas (and wear every day).”

Thus, an outfit is born. The only thing I added were my Peter Pan earrings (made from a pair of star earrings and some feather accessories a few years back and used for every Peter Pan ‘bound since – when I met Peter Pan in person wearing them, he was very impressed I was able to get three feathers while he only has one).

So I was able to get out of my rut and put together a fresh outfit once I was able to remove any preconceived notions of what my ‘bound should look like from my mind. Sometimes I just have to look at things differently and hopefully, the next time I’m stuck in a rut I can look back at this post and gain new inspiration!

Some new Disneybounds I tried out this week are:

  • John and Michael Darling – I dressed my daughter and I as John and Michael and it was so easy and casual. I put her in pink footie pjs and grabbed her teddy bear (Winnie the Pooh) and donned a grey sweater, black necklace (for her to chew on) and borrowed the little top hat we bought for her to wear on New Year’s Eve. I was really happy with how this all came together with minimal details but instantly recognizable. Bonus – the grey sweater I wore was a piece I thrifted last year!
  • Peter Pan’s shadow – I’ve seen a lot of people doing this, but I never had. I was feeling sort of lazy and threw on my black shirt and then realized I could just throw something together with black pants and it would totally work. It was a little lazy, but I was comfortable and happy.

And some returning favorites:

  • Tinkerbell – I have this nursing tank that I absolutely love and that gives me lots of Tinkerbell vibes. I had only used it once before in a Tinkerbell ‘bound so I thought it was appropriate to use again this week. I threw my hair in a high bun and voila! Tinkerbell!
  • Mr. Smee – This is the second time for this Disneybound as well since I made a Maternity ‘bound out of this shirt the first time I wore it. I wore my blue pants instead of jeans this time (because I love these blue pants and they are SO comfy) and added my red headband. Since today is also wear blue for Human Trafficking Awareness day, I coordinated by choosing a character that wears blue!

Dressember – Days 9-12

Dressember3

For the month of December I committed to wearing a dress each day for Dressember, a fundraiser to support the elimiation of human trafficking world-wide (you can read my post about Dressember here if you’d like to learn more: Dressember).

I joined a group of Disneybounders and we followed prompts to dress for the month. Here are the prompts:

43333410_10156774246187292_6399690103572135936_n

Today I’m looking back at days 9-12 to talk about my outfit choices.

Day 9 – Star Wars

I’m not really into Star Wars so I was low on ideas for this day. Additionally, it was my cousin’s wedding so I needed a pretty fancy dress. I actually was inspired by a dress @gryffmintdor made for a C3PO Disneybound and though I’m definitely not as talented as she is, I realized I had a gold dress that I could turn into a low-key C3PO Disneybound. The gold dress was from @reenie112‘s Masquerade birthday party last year and I basically wore the exact same outfit but without the mask.

Day 10 – Rulebreaker

I took the day after my cousin’s wedding off of work so I figured something low-key for rulebreaker day would be nice. It felt like a bit of a cop-out because I’ve done quite a few Hufflepuff closet cosplays at this point and they tend to be pretty similar, but it was comfy, easy, and good for being home with my daughter. I used a black dress that is actually a nursing dress and my favorite yellow sweater again. I added my Hufflepuff bracelets and golden snitch necklace and was good to go.

Day 11 – The Princess and the Frog

I love frogs. There are so many characters in The Princess and the Frog that I could have chosen but I just had to pull out my frog accessories (in this case, frog ring) and Disneybound as Prince Naveen. I wore a dress that I had used previously in both a Mulan and a Wilderness Explorer Disneybound, paired with a green sweater and, of course, my frog ring.

Day 12 – Fab Five

I love the Fab Five and since I hadn’t done a Goofy Disneybound recently, I decided to pull out my orange dress and bring back my black sweater to represent the big goof! I wore my hair in pony tails for his ears and added my green headband to represent his hat. I then wore my brown boots and took some very Goofy photos 🙂

Thanks for following along!

Dressember – Days 5-8

Dressember2

For the month of December I committed to wearing a dress each day for Dressember, a fundraiser to support the elimiation of human trafficking world-wide (you can read my post about Dressember here if you’d like to learn more: Dressember).

I joined a group of Disneybounders and followed prompts to dress for the month. Here are the prompts:

43333410_10156774246187292_6399690103572135936_n

Today I’m looking back at days 5-8 to talk about my outfit choices.

Day 5 – Animal Character

The animal character I chose for day 5 was Maid Marian because I love Robin Hood and had what was basically the perfect outfit for her. I bought this light purple dress two years ago for a Rapunzel ‘bound and after doing said ‘bound, thought how much it actually reminded me of Maid Marian. I have no idea what happened to my pink sweater that I wore for it but had the idea of wearing a long sleeved pink shirt under the dress. Well, I couldn’t find the pink shirt I wanted to wear either but I found this one in my drawer and realized it was so much better than either of the other two options! The necklace I wore was I think bought for a Pocahontas Disneybound a few years ago as well. Put together, these items formed a Maid Marian Disneybound I am very proud of.

Day 6 – The Little Mermaid

For The Little Mermaid day I wanted to do something different. I thought it would be fun to Disneybound as one of Ariel’s sisters so I looked at images and then chose Aquata. Aquata has a blue tail and top and wears pearls in her hair. I have a blue nursing dress and even though it’s striped, I still felt it worked well enough for her. I then paired that with a blue sweater and some costume pearls.

Day 7 – Any Princess

For me, this was one of the most difficult categories because I’ve done almost every princess in my Disneybound Princess series about two years ago and just didn’t feel like repeating them. I also wanted a new look with a dress I already owned. Pretty last minute (like, I woke up that morning and made the decision) I remembered Jasmine’s market look and so I tried my take on her. I used my really cozy brown sweater dress and a scarf that I got for my cousin’s bachelorette party (we all wore matching scarves, it was really cute) and braided my hair. I threw it together quickly but I really wanted to go for comfort and think it still came out great.

Day 8 – The Lion King

This was one of my favorites and I thought of it pretty quickly. The colors were pretty much perfect for Scar and I had this long black sweater and a necklace that went wonderfully with it from years ago so I was so happy to be able to use it.

Thanks for following along!

Dressember – Days 1-4

Dressember1

For the month of December I committed to wearing a dress each day for Dressember, a fundraiser to support the elimiation of human trafficking world-wide (you can read my post about Dressember here if you’d like to learn more: Dressember).

I joined a group of Disneybounders and we followed prompts to dress for the month. Here are the prompts:

43333410_10156774246187292_6399690103572135936_n

Today I’m looking back at days 1-4 to talk about my outfit choices.

Day 1 – Marvel

I chose Marvel Girl/Jean Grey because (1) I love the X-Men and Marvel Girl is part of the OG crew and (2) I really wanted to wear this green dress because we were going to the Annual Christmas Parade in my town. The only thing I added was my X-Men belt from @thebrothersyeecosplay that I bought for a Con over a year ago (this is not an ad but their belt buckles are awesome and can be customized so I was able to pick what colors I wanted where and it came out exactly how I wanted it).

Day 2 – Beauty and the Beast

I love Beauty and the Beast so I have done many Belle Disneybounds in the past. This time I decided to shake things up (even though I have two perfect dresses for Belle) and selected Babette (I think she’s also called Plumette in the new movie). I always liked Babette even though she has only a small part in the movie. I also love her because my mom’s maiden name is Plumeau which literally means “feather-duster” so this could have been one of my long-lost relatives (LOL). On 12/2 we were attending my cousin’s son’s first birthday party so I wanted to wear my favorite sweater-dress and it fit perfectly as a Babette ‘bound. I added a black and white statement necklace I got for my birthday to bring all the colors together.

Day 3 – Brave

I decided to Disneybound as Merida for the Brave prompt since I had the perfect outfit already. I had a dress in just the right blue-green shade and a plaid that looked perfect with it which I wore around my waist. I added my arrow necklace and arrow bracelet to bring it all together.

Day 4 – Your Favorite Character

My favorite character has always been Peter Pan so I absolutely had to Disneybound as him for day 4. I wore one of my (many) green dresses and my Cakeworthy Never Grow Up flannel shirt. I also wore my red feather and stars earrings that I put together specifically for Peter Pan Disneybounds a few years ago. I always love the way my Peter Pan Disneybounds turn out and this was no exception!

Dressember – Days 28-31

Ribbet collage (1)

For the month of December I have committed to wearing a dress each day for Dressember, a fundraiser to support the elimiation of human trafficking world-wide (you can read my post about Dressember here if you’d like to learn more: Dressember).

I joined a group of Disneybounders and we are following prompts to dress for the month. Here are the prompts:

43333410_10156774246187292_6399690103572135936_n

Today I’m looking back at days 28-31 to talk about my outfit choices.

Day 28 – Pixar Characters

I was really torn for Pixar day. I initially thought about Disneybounding as the Pixar ball, but then I figured it wasn’t necessarily a character (and I wore my yellow dress the day prior). Instead, I decided to look back on my Pixar Disneybounds from the summer for inspiration. When I did, I realized that one of my favorite Disneybounds was WALL-E and it included my black and white striped dress – perfect for Dressember! I, again, used my favorite yellow cardigan ( the true hero of my closest) and the Earth necklace that I got doing a scavenger hunt on Earth Day! This is an outfit I’m sure to repeat over and over because it’s both cute and comfortable.

Day 29 – Park Attraction

Park Attraction is a difficult one. I’ve Disneybounded a few so far – Rocking Rollercoaster, Living with the Land, “It’s a small world”, and even the Country Bears Jamboree – but none of those involved a dress. I also wanted an attraction that is meaningful to me, does not stem from a Disney movie, and is not similar to anything else I’ve done this month. That led me to Figment. My friend Reenie put together an awesome Disneybound of Figment for Dapper Day last spring ( that you can check out here) and I knew I had the perfect purple dress to wear for it. The only thing I didn’t have was orange accessories. I was at a loss. I started thinking about how I bought my daughter every color headband there is and how I wish they fit me so we could share. I then realized that I didn’t have to wear her headband as a headband to accessorize, I could use it more like a scrunchie! So yes, I borrowed an accessory from my almost 6-month old daughter.

Day 30 – Finding Nemo/Dory

I absolutely love both Finding Nemo and Finding Dory and I actually chose this theme for my birthday back in April so I knew immediately what I was going to wear! I bought my orange dress, black and white necklace, and black and white belt for my birthday and wore it all again, with my black and white circle earrings (because they reminded me of bubles) and my black and white striped headband for a Nemo Disneybound. Since this was basically a repeat of a good one I did a few months ago, I didn’t have much to think through but it is comfortable and perfect for a relaxing Sunday at home!

Day 31 – Cinderella Characters

I thought this prompt was sort of ironic because I had Disneybounded as Cinderella on New Year’s Eve two years ago as well. I cleaned in her “rags” look and then I went out in her “ball” look. I obviously didn’t want to do exactly the same thing again, but I still wanted to Disneybound as Cinderella. I remembered I have a denim dress (technically it’s maternity) that would go great with my black choker necklace and some blue leggings and, of course, my Cinderella Toms. I used my daughter’s trick-or-treat bag as a pumpkin purse and I was ready for midnight! We spent New Year’s at a friend’s house for a quiet, child-friendly time.

My 2018 Fashion Favorites

I ran my Instagram top 9 (of course) for 2018 and what came up didn’t surprise me at all. With the exception of one, they are all maternity Disneybounds from the March Disneybound Challenge. The exception is a #shoefie of myself and my daughter wearing our matching Cinderella shoes for the Fall into Disney Style Challenge. Since I always get more likes during challenges (more people looking at the hashtags, etc), and everyone was loving my maternity Disneybounds, it all made sense. That being said, I thought I’d discuss what they were, my decisions behind them, and why I think they fared so well.

My 2018 Top 9

742c2ba3-990a-4672-8946-8ba23d6ed8fd

9. Slinky Dog (143)

Ringing in at #9 with 143 likes is Slinky Dog! The prompt for this Disneybound was “Disney Dogs” and I thought it would be fun to be Slinky Dog from Toy Story. I wore a golden-brown colored dress with brown tights and my brown jacket. I then braided my hair for his ears, added a green headband for his collar, and bangle bracelets to represent his slinky middle. I was particularly proud of this because the whole outfit stemmed from the idea to wear the bangle bracelets. I think choosing an out-of-the-box (literally) character for dog day is what made this Disneybound so popular but I agree that it wasn’t as good as the rest of my top 9.

8. Pluto (144)

Entering the top 9 at #8 with 144 likes is Mickey’s pal Pluto! I chose Pluto for Fab Five day because he’s one of the only ones I hadn’t done yet at the time. It was actually a really simple Disneybound and I was so happy with how it turned out. We were traveling that first week in March so I wasn’t sure how many days I’d be participating in but I actually did not miss a day. This Pluto Disneybound really only consisted of my golden-yellow shirt, green scarf for his collar, and pony tails for his ears. I also found this really pretty green wall for the background in the guest bathroom of our friends’ house where we were staying. In my opinion, that kicked this basic Disneybound up a notch.

7. Cinderella Shoes (146)

At #7, with 146 likes, is Cinderella Shoes! Historically I get more likes for the March Disneybound Challenge than the Fall Into Disney Style Challenge and I think that is because my followers enjoy my Disneybounds and aren’t as interested in random fall decor, etc. But this exception is probably because of how stinking cute the picture is. Even I look at it and think it’s adorable because who can dislike baby feet? My sister bought my daughter and I matching Cinderella Toms (for when she eventually starts walking) so I had mine on with the legs double cuffed so I put her in her jeggings and double cuffed the bottoms and slipped her shoes on. I then posed our feet around one of my fall pumpkin decorations (because it’s Cinderella and fall so you have to do pumpkins) and it made the most adorable #shoefie (which was the prompt that day). I honestly love every picture with my daughter in it because she’s the cutest and her little legs and feet are just so adorable I give her all the credit for this one.

6. Marie (147)

Bounding into 6th place (see what I did there?) with 147 likes is Marie of The Aristocats. Here I am, 6 months pregnant, trying to find something vintage-y without posting a throwback and I remember this white dress I bought to wear on my honeymoon. It was a little big at the time and A Line so it fit my pregnant belly and a halter so it fit up top, too. The problem with this dress is that it wrinkles so easily and the pictures of me standing in it came out so wrinkled that I didn’t know what to do. Then I thought maybe spinning and giving it motion would help it look not as bad and it worked. I also paired it with my Pink Ladies jacket and neck scarf to give it more of a vintage vibe and it was purr-fect for Marie. I used her quote with a spin on it to tie it all together and I think that gave this Disneybound the extra push it needed to make the charts: “Because I’m a [pink] lady, that’s why.”

5. Hei Hei (161)

Pecking it’s way into the #5 spot is Hei Hei from Moana! The prompt for this day was “Moana Characters”. It was snowing out, I wanted something comfortable, I picked Hei Hei. I love this yellow shirt because it’s pretty flattering (even though I didn’t need that since I was pregnant) and the ruffles sort of represented his feathers. I used a red scarf for the feathers on his head, and wore jeans and a sweatshirt around my waist for the feathers on his bottom. It was such a casual outfit that I really didn’t expect much feedback which is probably why this is the most surprising top 9 post of the year.

4. Baymax (167)

Coming in at #4 with 167 likes is Baymax! The first day of the challenge was Big Hero 6 and my first actual belly ‘bound while I was pregnant. I was really excited about this one as I was inspired by a previous post like it. I wore a white shirt with my red/orange jacket and red/brown pants and put the image of Hiro trying to fit Baymax into his suit next to it. Anyway it sounds lame but looks hilarious and I was extremely proud of it. That’s why I was pretty glad it made the list because I love belly ‘bounds.

3. Prince Eric (199)

Swimming to #3 is Prince Eric! This prompt was Disney Princes and I was completely at a loss for this one. First off, all the Disney princes are in good shape and having a belly would look so silly and then there’s the fact that most of my clothes were barely fitting at this point. I ended up wearing a pair of navy yoga pants (that I think are maternity) with my white maternity shirt (the same one I wore for Baymax) and my red belt and voila! Prince Eric! Since there was no hiding my belly at this point, I think everyone loved it because of how funny it was to picture Prince Eric with a belly.

2. Chicha (232)

Second place, and the only Disneybound other than number one to break 200 likes is Chicha at 232 likes! The prompt for the last day of the challenge was “A character you’ve never bounded” and I was overwhelmed with possibilities. A fellow Disneybounder was celebrating her birthday so I decided to ask her for suggestions. She said to “be the youest you that you could be” which didn’t help much at first, but then I decided to see if there were any pregnant Disney characters since that was pretty much all I was about at that point. I found Chicha from The Emperor’s New Groove and decided I could Disneybound as her! She’s a character you don’t frequently see and it was fun to do her and show off my pregnant belly. I think a lot of people felt it was unique as well and that was why it did so well.

1. Gus Gus (262)

And the #1 post for 2018 with 262 likes is… Gus! This lovable rodent from Cinderella was my top post to date and also the most difficult for me to post. I was super self-concious about showing my bare pregnant belly that I almost posted a different picture. I was wearing my favorite yellow shirt at the time and maternity jeans and my green winter hat. I had my belly out and basically put my whole self out there, unappologetically, for everyone to see. And my followers responded. I was blown away with the response I got for this Disneybound and I still am. I’ve learned that many times when I take a big risk, it pays off in a big way.

I’m so happy about my Top 9 for 2018 and I can’t wait to put together even better outfits for 2019! Happy New Year everyone!! See you next year 🙂
